Chemistry and Me……

Atoms, molecules, compound and elements, all these sound strange to those people who are not taking science subject in their study life. However, these are the most basic and simplest method for those science stream students. Chemistry, for me is a subject that full with definitions, calculations, equations, experiments and so on.

Still remember, my very first time that I have really exposed to this subject is during standard 4, primary school. At that time it is not specific yet, so I am learning the subject known as science. Till I became a science stream student during secondary school, then I just realized that this subject can be further divided into biology, chemistry and physic. From that onwards, I just understand what actually chemistry is and the different between each others.

What is chemistry???

Chemistry is the science of matter and the changes it undergoes. The science of matter is being concerned with the composition, behavior, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions.

Disciplines within chemistry are traditionally grouped by the type of matter being studied or the kind of study. They are:
·        Physical chemistry
·        Organic chemistry
·        Inorganic chemistry
·        Biochemistry
·        Analytical chemistry
·        Neurochemistry
·        Pharmaceuticals chemistry

Since I have come across a few of this chemistry disciplines in my course, the subject that I preferred the most is biochemistry. By study biochemistry, I am exposed to the knowledge that which are closely related to our daily life, especially the foods we consumed every day. In deeper study and after understanding it, it gives me a signal to aware of our body health. Through biochemistry, I also have a better understanding on the advantages and disadvantages of taking excessive or lower intake of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, I am having a better idea on their functions in our body and also the diseases that are due to excessive or lacking of these biomolecules that make up our human body.

On the other hand, sometimes I hate chemistry because there are always lab classes for all the disciplines of chemistry. Since I am a lazy person, so I hate carry out experiments and also do the lab report. I always complete my lab report in last minute. Most of the time, the results I obtained from the experiments are always different with what i supposed to observe. That’s why I wonder am I having poor lab skills or the reagents provided are always been contaminated??? If not, why I can’t get the exact result? Besides that, I hate carry out the experiments as the apparatus are always in a “good and clean” condition, *_*.

In conclusion, I hate chemistry as to study this subject, my brain need more space to remember and store all the formulas, equations, preparation steps, properties, identification tests and also the molecular structures. But at the same time I do like it too in some other ways. However, whether I like it or not, I still have to come across this chemistry subjects and remember them for the rest of my life as I have chosen pharmacist as my future career. Instead of hate it, I think better I start to love it now. As things always go like that, the more you love it, it comes more close to you and the more you hate it, it goes away from you. So friends, we have no choice, the only way is to study hard for it, KAMBATEH !!! *_*

  1. i totally agreed with u...
i hate lab classes too, especially doing qualitative analysis tests...
most of the time sure won;t the exact result which it suppose to be =.=

  2. Wow! All about Chemistry~ ^^
Seriously,I started to love Chem since form 4 as our Chem teacher really good n also my form six's teacher.^^
It getting harder now, as we were exposed to the 'sub' of Chem.I hate to memorize the structure and the preparation steps too,esp in PIC last sem. And I going to face it this sem too. Sad.
And I heard from my lecturer that this course has more jobs to choose in future.
    Biochem=tough, but I'm over it! ^^
Good Luck to you my friend~ Work hard together!

    P/s:I love the sentence,'love,closer;hate,away',
    absolutely right!

  5. Undergoing the same moments of Chemistry classes at Inti, first of all, here I confess that I had wonderful moments with you, Ong. Be it on the serious times or the fun times that we spent in classes :D

Together, we had lots n lots of Chemistry Projects and Chemistry Homework, duhh.. referring to our pages long lab reports :P I also remember the last minutes that we spent together working on them. Haha, not forgetting our 'playful' experiment moments. Though we dont get to see what we are expected to see at times, it has been great working with you and our classmates as we try to reason out things and we always worked in a team. Let the 'jokes be aside', we always worked in such a way when such necessity was required.

Well... I see you as a potential friend. A smart, hardworking girl, striving for her dreams in becoming a pharmacist. I wish you all the best, my friend, gambateh and you will surely succeed, dear.

Congratulations on your contribution to this blog. It's pretty awesome as it made me think about our flasbacks at Chemistry classes... Both pros and cons that we faced together. Good job, girl :)
